Running Head: PROJECT ANALYSIs

Project Analysis

Project Implemented

There are three projects to be taken into consideration in the present situation. The projects considered here include Juniper Project, Palomino Project and Stargazer project. These projects are to be considered by the organization and one of these projects is to be selected by the organization for generating positive results. Information is available regarding all three kinds of projects. The information will help in making sure that the organization achieves results regarding selection of the best project for it. All three projects have certain characteristics to be taken into account by the organization.

First project is the project which will require a total investment of $325000 for brining the project in the market (Bierman & Smidt, 2007). Return on investment in the project for a period of 2 to 3 years shall be at the level of $2500000. The product’s period is 3 years. For the second project, critical path is of a period of 9 months. The cost for brining this project is at the level of $655000. For a period of 5 years, return on investment on the project is at the level of $450000. The product will come to an end after the end of 7 years.

For the third project, cost incurred by the organization for brining the project in the market is $575000. For the first year, return on investment will be at the level of $300000. In the second year, return on investment shall be at the level of $550000 and in the third year, return on investment will be at the level of $750000. Life of project is of 7 years.

Regarding recovery of cost, organization will recover the cost in the 2nd year in the case of first project. The cost will be recovered by the organization in the 2nd year but the organization will make use of the project for a period of 7 years. The situation is the same in the case of 2nd project also. In case of 3rd project, recovery of cost shall be made within a period of 1 year but the product shall be used by the organization for a period of 7 years. This way, organization should select 3rd project.

Phases of Project

In case of a project, there are five phases which are to be taken into consideration. Phases of project include initiation phase, planning phase, execution phase, monitoring phase, controlling phase and project close phase. In the initiation phase, setting up of project for success is carried out by the organization. Organization works towards setting up project for success and lays down groundwork for the project to be carried out by it. Groundwork is set up for ensuring that parts of the project are completed in a proper manner.

Planning phase is the second phase of the project. In planning phase, organization identifies the activities to be carried out by it for completion of the project. Organization determines the tasks to be completed by it in advance for successful completion of the project. Execution phase is the third phase of the project. In case of execution phase, organization moves and executes the project.

Fourth phase is phase of monitoring and controlling. This phase is related to monitoring of activities of organization during the course of the project. Organization makes changes in the project in case, there is some kind of problem with the procedure adopted by it. Fifth phase of the project is closing phase (Peterson & Fabozzi, 2004). Project closing phase is the phase which is adopted at a point of time when, the organization has completed the project and objectives of project are achieved.

Key deliverables

Certain key deliverables are to be taken into account in the present situation regarding the project. First deliverable of the project is that the organization shall be in the position to generate higher level of cash flows over a period of time. The organization shall be able to recover the costs without any problem. Second deliverable of the project is to provide high quality products to the customers of the organization. Organization should ensure that it provides such products which meet requirements of customers to the highest possible level. The customers purchasing the organizational products should be able to make sure that they purchase the products more often.

Here, three projects were taken into account. All three projects considered here had different characteristics. Regarding the characteristics of the project, it has been provided that each project has different period of recovery of cost (Baker & English, 2011). The organization should make selection of third project as this project has payback period of 1 year and the product shall be used for 7 years.

On 4 March 2013, Jalil, an antique collector, entered a contract for purchase of an antique watch, which was described in good faith, by Farid, the seller, as more than 100 years of age. Jalil paid the deposit of RM10 000 out of the total price of RM 50 000 and promised to pay the balance within one week. On 6 March 2013, while attending an auction for antiques, Jalil met Yati, who told him that she was the person who sold the antique watch which she inherited from her father, to Farid. Yati told Jalil that the watch is not very old as her father bought the watch on the day that Malaysia got its independence, i.e. on 31 August 1957. Jalil was very disappointed with what Yati told him and immediately sent an email to Farid which sated that he intend to terminate the contract which he entered with Farid on the ground that there was a misrepresentation of fact. Jalil also wanted to claim back the RM 10 000 of deposit which he has already paid to Farid. Advise Farid. [20 marks] [TOTAL: 40 MARKS]
