This week’s lesson explored the concept of affirmative action and its application in hiring. Consider and comment on the following questions:
1. Is affirmative action appropriate as a hiring policy? Is it always a good idea? Never a good idea? Is it only appropriate under certain circumstances? For example, is it only appropriate for certain hiring characteristics, industries, geographical markets, etc.? Explain your reasoning given your understanding and experience (if any) with the concept.
2. Consider the effects of affirmative action with respect to the industry in which you work (or are aspiring to work). Is affirmative action being utilized at all in your industry? If so, how? If not, would it have a beneficial effect on hiring standards if it were? Why or why not?
